Sitemap: Get indexed faster

A sitemap provides the basic framework around which a website is designed. It functions like any other map guiding the user where to go. In addition to this, it also helps web spiders crawl the entire site. Thus creating a sitemap is not only helpful from a user point of view but it also helps in Search Engine Marketing.
Benefits of having a sitemap:
  • Users can find their way through the site easily.
  • All pages of the site get linked.
  • Search spiders crawl entire site.
  • Faster indexing by search engines.
  • Higher traffic to the site.
However certain basic things need to be kept in mind while writing your site map.
  • Write your sitemap before your website is built and not vice versa. This gives a direction to the site while still in the development stage.
  • Consider visitor/user behavior while building a site map. The order of the pages should be based on this.
  • Have a Google sitemap account and submit your sitemap.
  • Last but not the least, when you add new pages to the site remember to update it on your sitemap account.
